Saw this in the good foods top 20 cheap eats so decided to give it a go. Delicious beef noodle soup. I had the signature beef noodle soup with regular amount of spice. It was the perfect level for me, hot but not blow your head off hot. Broth was great, and the beef was so tender you could break it apart with your chopsticks. Absolutely loved it.

As people who grew up eating noodles and have eaten noodles all around Asia, this is one of the best we have ever had. The noodles had great texture, the soup had an authentic and unique flavour that was balanced with a variety of spices and ingredients. My parents were the most impressed with the braised beef for its rich flavour and soft texture. Definitely one of the best meals we had in Melbourne. We were also hosted by the really polite and friendly owner who made the experience more memorable. I am confused by any negative review received here - they are probably from people who do not understand Chinese noodles.

I have been here heaps of times so my holistic review is that this place is simply excellent. I would recommend it to everyone. One blight is that it doesn't have a liquor licence but you can't have it all. Other than that this place is perfect: super cheap food, but so tasty, unique, and complex, and with a vegetarian option as well, and a cold noodle option. The small menu means that you don't have to waste time deciding, and each dish feels as if there has been a lot of time and effort put into calibrating its exact flavour.

"Best noodles in Melbourne"

Enter Hi Chong Qing (pronounced "Ch-ong Ch-ing") and discover another taste of China that you have never experienced before. South of Sichuan, ChongQing is a major city in southwest China. It is one of four federally-administered cities (the other three being Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin). Across China, ChongQing's cuisine is synonymous for noodles & hotpot.

The journey of HiCQ started in December 2016, when Kevin resigned from his corporate career and went to ChongQing to learn from a noodle master with the hopes of sharing his delicious Chinese style soup noodles. With that in mind, HiCQ finally opened it's door in November 2017 at RMIT. HiCQ not only serves as a tribute to ChongQing but also to the noodle master that was willing to entrust his carefully crafted recipes and knowledge. The noodle dishes provided here have been perfected over 26 years, delivering as one RMIT staff mentioned the "best noodles I have ever eaten”. This has been further validated by TimeOut Melbourne when they mystery shopped us in March 2018 saying "Are these the best noodles in Melbourne? Right now, they’re the only noodles we want to eat."

It is our pleasure and philosophy at HiCQ to provide a delicious and humble bowl of noodles. We hope we can delight you just like our noodle master has done so for the past 26 years in Chong Qing.
